Why can't I buy a home generator as whisper quiet as those in motor homes?

1. The quiet ones tend to be more expensive, are you just looking at cheap ones? Did you try a recreational vehicle dealer? I imagine the same generators are optionally packaged for stationary use (for a price)
2. check out honda,or some other japanese makes. most are really quiet compared to my coleman 4000. my buddie put a honda civic muffler on his,so theres ways to quiet them down.
3. The quiet one's on motor homes usually run about $2000 and the one's you buy from local hardware/home improvements stores are about $600. You can purchase a high end Onan generator for about $2000. Or a lot of other high end generators may carry less noisy sets. Basically, you get what you pay for.
